To ensure the best possible learning in school your child needs to arrive on time (8.50am) and attend school every day.

Homework

Homework will be sent home on a Friday and should be returned the following Wednesday. Please ensure your child tries their best with this homework and do offer guidance and support when needed, whilst still allowing your child to work out answers for themselves.

Reading

Please read with your child every day and record this in his/her reading record. It is important to question your child’s understanding of what they have read. The reading record is to be signed and returned the next day to show your child has read at home (15-20 minutes).Your child’s book will be changed every Monday.

PE

This year PE is on a Wednesday and a Thursday. Your child must be in full kit every week. PE kit is; black shorts, white polo shirt and black pumps. The Wednesday lesson will be outdoors, therefore if you wish (as the weather changes) your child can wear black tracksuit bottoms/jacket and trainers.

Snack

Children in Year 2 can buy a drink and snack from the snack trolley during morning playtime. They can choose from orange or apple juice and a variety of fruit. Both drinks and fruit are 20p each. If you would like to pay for the week, please put the money in a named envelope and hand it in at the beginning of the week. Alternatively, your child can bring in 20p per day.

We look forward to our exciting term ahead. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

Cycle 2

First of all, I would like to congratulate all of Year 6 for the past few months on how hard they have worked and how well they have settled. I am extremely proud of them all already and I know they are ready to tackle the rest of the year.

This term we have started our booster sessions at 8:00am on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Your child will be invited to these so keep an eye out! These, along with our day of learning, will help your child get ready for the End of Key Stage 2 Assessments.

P.E. – Please make sure your child has their P.E. kit in for the whole week as P.E slots differ from week to week.

Homework – We will still be sending homework out on a Friday and this will be due back in on Wednesday. Please encourage your child to complete this over the weekend so if they have any issues they can speak to me about it on Monday.

With the weather getting colder and colder, please make sure your child comes to school with suitable shoes and a suitable coat.

As always, please come and see me if you have any questions.

Miss Stephens 🙂

Cycle 2

What a fantastic start to the year! Year 5 have been working tirelessly and have already shown a huge amount of progress. We have won the attendance trophy many times and I hope that we will continue to do so.

The amount of children who are coming to school without their diary signed is becoming more common, therefore, I ask for your full cooperation to ensure your child is ready at home daily and has his/ her diary signed. Children receive a Class Dojo point for reading at home, therefore, this helps your child towards achieving 35 Dojos, to take part in the Dojo treat.

PE:

PE lessons are on Fridays only, as we also take part in swimming lessons on a Thursday. We suggest your child brings their kit in at the beginning of the week, to ensure that they do not forget it, and take it home on a Friday to be washed. Please ensure your child is wearing the correct PE kit with suitable footwear.

Cycle 2

Website info.

Reading

Thank you to all who came to the Early Years reading meeting held in October. I hope that you found this information useful and it has helped in some way to support your child’s reading at home.  The feedback we received has been very positive and we will be scheduling an additional stay and read session in the New Year.

Please remember to bring your child’s reading book to school every day and support them with their reading at home.   Ask your child questions about their book to check their understanding of what they have read and help them to practise the highlighted words on the sheet at the front. Completing the reading record is an excellent way for us to communicate and share your child’s reading skills.

During this cycle we will be reading Owl Babies, The Jolly Christmas Postman and Biscuit Bear which will also support our writing and enable the children to produce some lovely work.

Christmas

Christmas is quickly approaching and the children are working hard practising the songs for the Snowman at Sunset production which I am sure you will all love.  Further information about the show will be sent home in due course.  We look forward to seeing you there.

Snack Money

We ask that the children continue to bring in 50p every week, on a Monday, to contribute towards the cost of providing the children with a range of healthy snacks and to help fund additional resources throughout the year.  Your contributions are greatly appreciated.

Attendance

Please be reminded that the school doors open at 8:50am and phonics lessons commence at 9am prompt. It is important your child arrives to school on time to ensure valuable learning is not missed.

Weather

As the weather is now turning much colder it is essential for all children to have spare clothes and wellie boots left in school on their peg.  The children access the outdoors in ALL weather and we do not have enough spare wellies for them in school.  Children also require a thick winter coat, hat, scarf and gloves. Please check all items are clearly labelled with your child’s full name.

Reminders

Over the following weeks, Manchester United will be in school every Thursday morning to conduct coaching sessions for the class boys.  Please remember to bring in trainers or pumps that day so they are ready to take part in the sessions.

Cycle 2

We have had a lovely first half term and the children have been working so hard.

During cycle 2, in English, we will be reading two different stories. The first one will be How to Find Gold and the second will be The Dark. Both of which I’m sure the children will enjoy.

In Maths, we will be covering fractions, shape, measure and statistics. We will also recap on the work we have done on addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

We have got lots of exciting topics coming up over this cycle. They are:

  • Science- Seasonal Change
  • History- Toys and Games
  • T.- Sensational Salads
  • Computing- Computer Art and Presentation Skills
  • RE- How and why do we celebrate special and sacred times?

Homework will continue to be sent home on a Friday and should be returned the following Wednesday. Please ensure your child tries their best with this homework and do offer guidance and support when needed, whilst still allowing your child to work out answers for themselves. In your child’s homework folder there is a list of year 1 spellings. We are working hard on making sure spelling is of a high standard in year 2, so please ensure your child practises these on a regular basis, both spelling and writing in sentences, as well as the weekly year 2 spellings that are sent home.

Please try and read with your child every day and record this in his/her reading record. It is important to also question your child’s understanding of what they have read.  Books will be changed every Monday.

PE continues to be on Monday and Friday and your child must be in full kit every week. PE kit is; black shorts, white polo shirt and black pumps. The Friday lesson will be outdoors, therefore if you wish (as the weather changes) your child can wear black tracksuit bottoms/jacket and trainers.

To ensure the best possible learning in school your child needs to arrive on time (8.50am)and attend school every day. Please inform school immediately of the reason for any pupil absence.

If you have any questions please speak to myself or Mrs. Jackson.

Cycle 2

Cycle 2

Teacher: Miss Wills

Teaching Assistant: Mrs Singh

We have had a wonderful time getting to know each other during Cycle 1. The children have settled into school well and become familiar with all of the rules and routines of the day.

The children have been taking part in short focused sessions on the carpet and will continue this now throughout the year. These sessions are: Phonics, Maths and Communication and Language. Our bear called George helps the children to remember the listening rules during these sessions.

Phonics: The childrenwill beexperiencing and learning to appreciate rhythm and rhyme and developing awareness of rhythm and rhyme in speech. They will also be learning to develop their understanding of alliteration.

Communication and Language: During these sessions the children will be reading and exploring the books Tanka Tanka Skunk and The Naughty Bus during this cycle.

Maths: The children have been learning to recognise numbers up to ten and will continue to practise this. They are also learning to count objects by placing them in a line and touching each object. We will continue to sing number songs and rhymes.

The children have enjoyed learning and practising lots of songs and rhymes, such as Incy Wincey Spider, The Wheels on the Bus and Five Currant Buns. We will continue to sings songs and rhymes during the year as they are soimportant in developing your child’s language and communication skills. Introducing children to a variety of nursery rhymes can help them understand and learn about different sounds. This is an important part of developing those early literacy skills.

Reading

Thank you to all of you who came to the Reading Meetingthat we held in October. We had some good feedback and we hope we were able to answer your questions. The children have now started to bring home the lilac coloured reading books. We hope you have been sharing these with your child on a regular basis and asking them lots of simple questions about the pictures.

Please remember to fill in their reading record book so that we know the children are sharing the book with you at home.

Christmas

We have started to learn the songs for our Christmas performance of ‘Snowman at Sunset’. We look forward to seeing lots of you there to support the children when we perform it in December.

Things to remember:

Spare Clothes

Please ensure your child has a bag of spare clothes with them in school at all times, including underwear and socks. It is very important that we are able to change your child and make them comfortable if any toileting accidents occur or if they get wet from water play. We explore the outdoors in all weathers so children need to be dressed appropriately.

All children require a pair of wellies in school.  The children will really enjoy outdoor water play and accessing the newly replenished sandpit.

Snack Money

We ask that the children bring in a voluntary contribution of 50p every week, on a Monday, to contribute towards the cost of providing the children with a range of healthy snacks.

Uniform
Children must be in correct school uniform at all times. This includes appropriate footwear. Please ensure your child’s uniform is clearly labelled with your child’s name.

Focus child

We have three focus children per class, per week. We record additional information on paper to be kept in the child’s folder in the classroom. Parents can contribute to this by bringing in or emailing photos to the Early Years email address. Examples of photos might be: A trip to the park, visiting family, swimming lessonsThe photos may be used as prompts for your child to share news with the class or to write about. You will receive a letter when your child is selected as the focus child.

Cycle 2

Your Year 4 teachers this year are Mrs Mendham, Miss Savage and Mrs Richardson.

Uniform

We would just like to remind you to put your child’s name in all items of their uniform, including coats.

PE:

PE lessons will now be on Thursdays and Fridays. We suggest your child brings their kit in at the beginning of the half term and then take it home at the end of each half term to be washed. You may choose to wash your child’s PE kit more frequently.

Music

We will have Mr Garbutt, our music teacher, coming in to teach us Music on Wednesday afternoons. The children will be allocated a brass instrument and will need to be kept at home to allow the children to practice and they will need to bring it in every Wednesday for the lesson.

Homework

Homework is given out each Friday and needs to be returned by the following Wednesday. This will include a piece of Maths homework and spellings to learn weekly. If for any reason the homework is not handed in by a Thursday morning, there will be a lunchtime club on that day where the children will have to complete any missing work.
