Cycle 2

The children have all been working very hard and I am very proud of the learning they have done so far. We are now moving into teaching and learning cycle 2.

In English we will be reading two stories; Man on the Moon and The Storm Whale. We will do lots of role play and other activities to support our writing about these stories.

In Maths we will be covering fractions, addition, shape, measures, subtraction, statistics, multiplication and division.

Your child has recently brought home a letter explaining all about times tables rock stars, including a username and password. This is available on both a computer and an app. It is a fun way for your children to learn and practise their times tables. We will be regularly checking the leader board in class to see who has been earning lots of coins for their characters.

We have got lots of exciting topics coming up over the next learning cycle. We will be doing lots of activities to answer questions based on the topics. The questions we will be answering are:

  • The Chicken or the Egg?- Science
  • Who was first?- History
  • What is a special place for Sikhs?- RE
  • Rocket or Shuttle?- DT

Homework will continue be sent home on a Friday and should be returned the following Wednesday. Please ensure children complete this as independently as possible and that it is returned to school.

Reading at home is extremely important. Children are asked daily if they have read at home and the reading records are then checked. Please try and read with your child every day and record this in his/her reading record. It is important to also question your child’s understanding of what they have read.  Books will be changed every Monday.

Please remember PE is on Thursday and Friday and your child must be in full kit every week. PE kit is; black shorts, white polo shirt and black pumps.

Children in Year 2 can buy a drink and snack from the snack trolley during morning playtime.  They can choose from orange or apple juice and a variety of fruit. Both drinks and fruit are 20p each. If you would like to pay for the week, please put the money in a named envelope and hand it in at the beginning of the week. Alternatively, your child can bring in 20p per day.

To ensure the best possible learning in school your child needs to arrive on time (8.50am) and attend school every day. Please inform school immediately of the reason for any pupil absence.
