Cycle 2

Christmas is fastly approaching and the children are working hard practising the songs for the Wriggly Nativity production which I am sure you will all love.  Further information about the show will be sent home in due course.

The children have been tuning into sounds and working hard on rhyme.  The children have enjoyed rhyming stories, such as Giraffes Can’t Dance and Shark in the Dark.  It would be really beneficial for your child if you could carry this on at home by emphasising rhyming words and reading rhyming stories before bed.  Julia Donaldson books are always a firm favourite for this.  We will keep coming back to rhyme throughout the year until the children can continue a rhyming string, such as, cat, mat, hat.

Soon the children will be starting the Read Write Inc phonics programme and we will be practising forming letters.  We have seen huge improvements in their writing skills since they started writing their name during morning registration a few weeks ago.  I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support in helping your child practise writing their name at home. It’s great to see how enthusiastic the children are about writing. Keep up the great work!

In maths we are focusing on recognising numbers 1-15, forming numerals and one to one counting objects.  The children have been recognising lots of numbers in the environment and are keen to tell the adults which number they have found.

As the weather is now turning much colder it is essential for all children to have spare clothes and wellie boots left in school on their peg.  The children access the outdoors in ALL weather and we do not have enough spare wellies for them in school.  Children also require a thick winter coat, hat, scarf and gloves.
