As we are now starting Cycle 3, Year 2 are working very hard in the run up to our SATs (Secret Agent Training) tests! We are excited to prove how much we have learnt over the year so far!
As it is such an important time for Year 2 with their SATs, we all know the importance of being in school on time every day to maximise our learning.
As the doors open each day at 8.50am, children are greeted with a different anthem to get them awake and ready for the day ahead. On Fridays, we can let our hair loose with our Friday Anthem, which can include anything from the conga to the limbo! As a team, we also want to win the attendance trophy! We appreciate your support to enable this to happen.
Mr. Thompson has recently sent out a letter regarding uniform. Please see this letter if you are unsure of the correct uniform attire. Children should also be practising tying shoe laces and buttoning up their own shirts.
|Monday||Reading books changed by teacher
Reading books and diaries to be taken home, filled in and brought back signed every day.
Children can change their book during their break time daily if needed.
|Wednesday||Homework to be handed in
PE – Indoor
|Thursday||PE – Outdoor|
Homework to be given out
Homework is given out every Friday.
The homework folder will include:
- Spellings – 10 words to practice each work for our spelling test every Friday.
- Lined paper – to write a sentence for each spelling word
- Times table practise – to be practised each week for the Times Table Challenge.
- Maths homework – to be completed weekly
Please encourage your child to complete their homework carefully and neatly, ensuring that they work independently.
Homework needs to come back to school on a Wednesday in their homework folder. If homework isn’t in on time, children will attend Homework Club at lunchtime that day.
Reading is such an important skill in your child’s development and we are aiming to listen to children read every day.
Children should read to you every night to develop their confidence, fluency and expression.
All children in Year 2 has been provided with their own school diary for their reading to be logged.
After listening to your child read, you will need to sign the dairy.
The diary and reading book need to come back to school every day. We will be checking to see if the diary has been completed.
PE lessons are on Wednesdays and Thursdays. We suggest that your child brings their kit in at the beginning of term and leaves it in school until the end of term to ensure that they do not forget it. Please refer back to the uniform letter to see the correct PE attire.
It is expected that by the end of Year 2 pupils know, recite and understand the 2, 3, 5 and 10 times tables. We will cover this in class but please practise at home as well. The children know some songs to practise.
