Summer Term – Cycle 4

The children in Nursery have worked extremely hard during Cycle 3. We really enjoyed our trip to the farm and loved petting and feeding all of the animals. We have just started Cycle 4 and are excited about all the learning that will take place.

Reading

  • Our Key Text for Cycle Three is ‘On Sudden Hill’. We will be reading the story each week, answering blank level questions, learning about the characters, sequencing the story and bringing the story to life through role play.

Birt and Etho are best friends, they play on Sudden Hill, making marvellous contraptions out of cardboard boxes. But then a new boy, Shu, wants to join in too. Birt isn’t sure that he wants Shu to join them. Eaten up with jealousy, he goes home and refuses to come out to play. Until Etho and Shu come to his house with the most marvellous cardboard contraption so far…

  • Please continue to listen to your child read their reading book every night. Ask your children questions about their book to check their understanding of what they have read. Remember to bring your child’s book in every Friday to be changed.

Writing

We are continuing to work hard to write our names in the morning. Some of us are now learning how to write our surnames. In RWI lessons we are learning sounds. We are beginning to learn how to segment individual sounds in order to blend them to read simple words.

Maths

In Maths we are working very hard on counting out a number of objects from a larger group, one more than and practical addition. We are continuing to learn the names of 2D and 3D shapes.

Chicks

During this cycle we will be having some special visitors in Nursery. We will be receiving a set of eggs which we will be able to see hatch into chicks. Very exciting! The children will learn about the life cycle of a chicken and will have the opportunity to draw and write about the chicks and maybe even hold a chick!

Snack Money

We ask that the children continue to bring in 50p every week, on a Monday, to contribute towards the cost of providing the children with a range of healthy snacks.

Attendance

Please be reminded that the school doors open at 8:50am and the register and maths lessons commence at 9am prompt.  It is important your child arrives to school on time to ensure valuable learning is not missed.

Weather

Please ensure your child has spare clothes and underwear as there may be times when your child gets wet during outdoor play.

Clothing

Please ensure all clothing is labelled clearly with your child’s name. We are still noticing a number of jumpers and cardigans with no name.

We operate an open door policy, therefore please feel free to come in and speak to me about any worries or concerns you may have about your child or your child’s learning. If you would like a more in depth discussion, we can arrange a mutually convenient time and date.

Thank you for your continued support,

Miss Harvey and the Nursery team.
